Spotify is a new type of internet radio that is seeing sucess in many European countries. It allows users to chose what to listen to and to access it instantly. Currently in the US we have sites that are similar to this but none that allow instant songs for free; the majority stream internet radio. If Spotify comes to the US, i am certain it will overtake the online music industry. The program downloads to your computer, and users may be unaware they are even online. There is no lag time compared to other streaming music sources and searches go through instantly. The page is designed similar to Apples iTunes and is quite easy to naviagate around.
The only thing that makes me skeptical about Spotify is that in order to use the free version you must request a voucher to join and these these vouchers are given out sparingly through the actual site. There are many other sites that sell these vouchers for a small fee which I'm sure would pay off. If users want to upgrade to the premimum version they pay a small monthly fee and are able to download songs to be saved to their PC; allowing the music to be transfered to CDs or iPods. According to Bloomberg, Spotify looks to make its way to the United States in the Third Quarter of 2010.
"Any track you like, any time you like. Just search for it in Spotify, then play it. Any artist, any album, any genre - all available instantly. With Spotify, there are no limits to the amount of music you could listen to. Just help yourself to whatever you want, whenever you want it."
